Do you guys ever feel like you have no clue what you’re doing when it comes to parenting? Dane is SO unpredictable from day-to-day. Sometimes he’s the easiest, happiest child on the planet and sometimes it’s like he’s the spawn of the devil (which I guess would be me, huh?) For example, around his 5 month update – he was this sweet angel baby, sleeping through the night and waking up giggling. Fast forward two weeks and he’s back to waking up a million (that’s exaggerating) times a night, wining for bottles like we are starving him and soaking through his diaper all over his crib. What in the actual hell is going on?! Additionally, I have never met a baby who pukes as much as our child. We go through no less than 5 LARGE burp rags (also known as blankets) per day, and multiple outfits – for him and us. Side-note: have you ever had chunky baby vom down your shirt and into you bra? It’s really special. Oh, and I haven’t even talked about the endless gallons of drool that stream constantly from his mouth. How? Just how? Kids gotta be dehydrated – he goes through so much saliva in a day. Annnd no sign of teeth – even though he’s been “teething” for about 3 months now. Yes, the drool river has been going on for that long. LOL, I just actually laughed typing that. He fights sleep too – he acts like it’s the worst thing on earth. Child, do you not know how glorious naps are and what I wouldn’t give to take THREE a day? Come onnn, man.
But jokes aside – even through all of the puke, drool, pee, poop and snot – I couldn’t love this kid more. In the past few weeks, he has made so many developmental changes it blows my mind! He’s rolling literally all over the living room. He reaches for our food and watches us eating, and grabs for every drink we have, including mommy’s juice (my red wine). He giggles like crazy when we tickle his feet or armpits and loves when his daddy’s scratchy beard tickles his tummy. He’s starting to say consonants like ba, da, ga and I swear to you he’s said mama already. He loves sticking his wild little tongue out at us and blowing bubbles. He smiles from ear to ear and his hair is STILL wild.
Bottom line is… I honestly have no idea what we’re doing most of the time but we’re doing the very best that we can. I get frustrated that he’s not sleeping through the night because I KNOW he’s capable of it. I also know this will not last forever and it’s silly to wish time away because you can’t get it back. So cheers to very little sleep, a wine headache, and a gallon of coffee! ❤
