This past weekend was one of the best I’ve had in a while, one of those good for the soul weekends. It was jam-packed with activities ranging from mom time, to family time, to a girls afternoon out. First of all, the weather could not be more ideal in my opinion – this is one of the biggest reasons I love living in Wisconsin. Fall is incredible! The leaves on the trees changing those gorgeous shades of orange and red, the crisp air in my lungs, everything apple and spiced, and especially the clothes. I always love fall fashion, but this year’s trends have got me so happy. I’ve been living in cozy flannels and riding boots so far – I have a full fashion roundup coming up on Lake Country Family Fun to see how I’ve been trying to refresh my closet without breaking the bank! Make sure to check that out – should be going up this week.
Saturday morning started with a little mommy-time: Starbucks, toes and hair appointments. Yes, it was an expensive morning, but honestly there is nothing like a fresh root touch-up to make you feel great. My hairstylist has become a close friend of mine too – so I love our catch-up sessions and she always gives great advice, it’s like therapy! I am pretty adamant about keeping up with these things – they give me a little boost of self confidence and all women deserve a little pampering from time to time + my gray hair is really getting out of control… Yikes.
Saturday afternoon was filled with one very excited 7 month old at Shady Maple Farm just a short drive from our house. Since Dane is still such peanut, we weren’t sure how he would react to his first pumpkin patch. We do know from experience though, that he loves animals, so the petting zoo was just the ticket. And boy did he love it. There is nothing else in the world like watching the wonder and happiness on a child’s face as he explores and learns. We saw and were able to pet sheep, goats, cows, turkeys, and even a baby clydesdale horse! If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the video I shot of Dane absolutely loving the sheep – he’s been screaming a lot lately (I think he’s testing how loud he can be, and this video is a prime example). We only lasted about an hour before someone started getting fussy so we headed home for football and a relaxing night.
Sunday was an amazing day. We woke up and got a lot of cleaning done, which was terribly needed. We have family pictures next weekend in our home and seeing that dust reflecting in the morning sunshine was like a punch in the gut. After a busy morning, I headed to Madison to meet up with my sister, mom and aunt for a wonderful rendition of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the Overture Center. We have all been obsessed with this musical for many years and it holds a lot of childhood memories for us. I will not lie, I spent the majority of the show humming along and fighting back happy tears. We all agreed that it was an incredible show, and can’t wait to plan our next outing. After the show we headed to my absolute favorite spot to eat in Madison: Ha Long Bay. If you live in the area, this is a MUST – they specialize in flavors from Vietnam, Thailand and Laos and are located right on Willy Street. I got my favorite dish, Pho – which I swear nobody else can make quite like they can. The owners of this little gem use to live in my hometown and ran the best Chinese restaurant, ever. I encourage you, check this place out – the 5+ page menu might be intimidating, but I promise everything is good.
After dinner, I made the hour long drive home and plopped down on the couch with Dane for a few snuggles before he headed up to bed. Special shoutout to my incredible husband who spent time with a fussy baby while I decompressed with a little “me time”. I appreciate it more than he knows. ❤
I hope you all have a great week. Enjoy the cooler air, enjoy the changing of the seasons, and enjoy each day – because it’s going so fast! Christmas is only 75 days away… what!?!
