Well I’m a couple days late on our monthly update – and with good reason! We’ve been busy as can be over at our house, and I haven’t had time to sit down and reflect. This 11th month of Dane’s life – just so happens to be the shortest month of the year – so if there was every any doubt that it would fly by, it’s already gone.
Our little peanut amazes us each day, and we’re so proud of him. He’s been ahead of the curve with his motors skills for months, but in the past few weeks he’s gone from walking to running, climbing the stairs and is quite the little daredevil. He taunts Houdini relentlessly, which is often followed by a swift swat of the paw (don’t worry, he doesn’t have claws on his front feet). Dane of course thinks this is a game, and just giiiiigggles. Poor cat. Someday I hope they’ll be best friends.
I especially love watching Dane with his dad. He copies everything Case does, and I can tell he’s going to for a lot of years. Casey’s been not so subtly turning our living room into a gym – including two basketball hoops (one from his childhood), a rubber band gun, marshmallow shooter and as many different sized balls as we can find. It’s so fun to see Dane catch on to things so quickly. He loves “jumping” up and slam dunking his basketball, playing soccer in the kitchen (with a little help from Casey), and jamming out to his music.
This past month he’s also surprised me by his love of books, turning the pages and feeling the different textures. It’s the sweetest thing watching him pick out the book and toddle it over to me, but I love the way he plops down right in my lap the most. He especially loves his book “Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site”, and we FINALLY made it through the whole thing without him getting distracted.
It’s not all butterflies and rainbows – he’s going through a needy phase, one where he cries when we’re out of sight, and NEEDS to be held in all waking hours. Trust me, I’m not complaining because I love snuggles – BUT these aren’t typical snuggles, these are “pick me up, pick me up” “OH something I can grab, put me down, put me down!” My back has been pretty sore lately from all the up and down because kiddo isn’t exactly light anymore. He’s weighing in at about 25 lbs, has popped two teeth through and has the cutest little tush you’ve ever seen.
He loves to eat, but goes through phases of how much he’ll eat at a time. Some days he goes to town and will finish full trays of food and others he is very picky. One thing that he’ll never refuse is fruit. He gobbles down blueberries and peaches like they’re going out of style – and that’s okay with us!
I can hardly believe that in just a few weeks our little man will be a whole year old. What a wild ride it’s been so far!
