So I’ve been completely stuck in a rut for a while now. I’ve been feeling like I don’t have enough time for all of the things that are important to me. My three best friends have all be workout rock stars while I fail again and again to get my booty in gear. I’ve been feeling like I’m not always in control of my schedule and not using my time wisely. Well, guess what? In order to make a positive change – sometimes you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
I’m not trying to beat a dead horse here and I know I talk (complain) about this a lot, but I do NOT love my commute to work. I’ve been making the best of it lately with audiobooks, but it still adds a ton of time onto the beginning and end of my day and I have a hard time getting in everything I want to.
So…. rather than continue down the spiral of doom and sinking further into a “poor me” attitude I decided to make a change. This post is all about knowing your worth and going for it.
After freaking out, worrying for way too long and spending too much precious headspace being nervous to ask the question, I finally did it. Work from home days have always been written into my contract at my job and until now, I’ve been taking advantage of one of those days and it’s been workout out pretty well. The days that I work from home start more calm, typically with a workout long before any of my other colleagues head into the office and I find I’m more focused on my tasks. Since I’ve been feeling a little like I’m underwater – I decided to ask the damn question and request my second work from home day. Turns out, the answer was “go for it”. Why was I so worried? I have no idea, but I’m SO glad I decided to just ask.
The moral of my story is that you never know unless you ask. This goes for more than just work situations and expands to everything in life. Wether you’re asking for help with a problem at the office, asking your husband to take the morning shift so you can squeeze in a workout or doing something to advocate for your well being – JUST ASK! It turns out that people typically are compassionate, and can relate to what you’re going through.
I had my first week of 2 at-home days last week, and the result was really great. I dropped Dane at school and immediately got in a great outdoor run – all before 8 am. I got to sip my coffee slowly and settle in for a very productive work day, followed by some blogging during what would have been my commute home. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact – and the slight shift has really helped me to pull myself out of the rut. I’m feeling a little more inspired, more motivated and am proud I stood up and made a positive change for myself.
The best part? I get to spend more time with this little guy – who just turned 16 months old on the 4th. I remember last year on the 4th like it was yesterday, what a crazy difference a year makes!
Cheers to knowing your worth and keeping expectations in check. Have a great weekend everyone!
