One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus – This book had me from chapter 1. Five high schoolers go into detention, only four come out. What happened and why? OK, so book reviews compared this to The Breakfast Club. I love that movie but it’s been done–I didn’t want to read about it. But I loved this book. There is so much more to it than what I expected. We hear the story from each perspective and find out each person’s dirtiest secrets. Who is lying?? Well, you find out that actually EVERYONE is! But who has the most to lose? You might be surprised… Get it here

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. You guys. I am almost embarrassed by how much I loved this book. I am part of a lot of reading blogs and so many have posted about this series. I put it off for so long, and then I just couldn’t resist anymore; I had to see what everyone was talking about. AND–I could not put it down. It’s a beautiful love story that took me to another time and place. Claire is a nurse in 1945, celebrating her honeymoon, when she is transported to 1743, There she finds the love of her life and more battles than she could have ever imagined. I am not quite halfway thru the second book and it’s a little harder to get into after the beautiful love story between Claire and Jamie, but I’m sucked into this awesome story line and I have no intention of stopping. There are 8 books in this series, AND a show based on the books. So, this could be your entire summer’s worth of life goals! Get it here

The Guest Room by Chris Bohjalian. Let me first preface by stating that Bohjalian might be my new favorite author. He takes the most absurd combination of ideas and makes them into amazing novels. This book is about a Bachelor party gone wrong—a bodyguard ends up dead and the host, an average Joe, is now faced with his home being a crime scene, his wife questioning their entire relationship…and Russian sex traffickers coming after him. Like most of Bohjalian’s books, it sounds farfetched, but he makes each book seem completely realistic and relatable. I also highly recommend The Flight Attendant and The Light in the Ruins by him. I have more on my reading list you’ll probably see in the future from Bohjalian! Get it here

The Cry by Helen Fitzgerald – Joanna and Alistair’s baby goes missing. Joanna blames herself, Alistair blames anyone but himself. This book is full of suspense, and we are pulled into the couple’s relationship as the story unfolds. The characters turn against each other as the truth about what happened to baby Noah comes out and we discover the lies at the heart of their relationship. This book is dark and twisty and kept me guessing until the end. Get it here

There you have it, my fellow book lovers! I hope you enjoy what you’re reading and maybe check out one of these! Happy Summer! 🙂
